The Right to Water
The right to safe, sufficient,affordable and accessible water and sanitation is now part of the international human rightsagenda. Working in solidarity with communities and like mindedagencies, Umande Trust advocates for the respect, protection and fulfillment of the right to water. We actively seek increased budgetary allocations to the water and sanitation priorities of excluded persons and groups.
Water Governance
We seek to raise awareness on water issues at local, national and international levels. Umande Trust supports the establishment of robust and democratic water and sanitation services associations (WASSAs). Read more >>>
Water and Sanitation Financing
In liaison with the coalition of Slumdwellers (Muungano wa Wanavijiji) , we have set up a ring-fenced water and sanitation fund in Nairobi and Kisumu. This will be managed by elected representatives of daily savings groups and regional networks. Equally important, the WASSAs are challenged to access information and resources on decentralized funds' water sector reforms and strategies. Read more >>>
Knowledge and Information Assets
Umande Trust is a local partners to the Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP). WSUP provides model that engages businesses and communities to achieve real, long-lasting and practical solutions. The initiatives place the potential ‘consumers’ at the helm in defining and designing appropriate water supply and sanitation service schemes. Read more
